David Allen Smith, Unionville, MO, age 68, passed away on June 2nd, 2026 at Putnam County Memorial Hospital. David was born March 8th, 1958, the oldest child of Harry and Betty (Allen) Smith.
He is survived by his sister, Annette (Smith) Reger and brother-in-law, Mark of Holts Summit, MO. He is survived by three nieces: Jennnifer Crawford (Independence, MO), Jessica Ishmael (St. Louis, MO), and Hannah Reger (Jefferson City, MO) as well as three nephews: Jacob Reger (Moberly, MO), Travis Reger (Fulton, MO) and Kendall Reger (Warrensburg, MO). Also surviving are three aunts: Reta Ollmann (Cairo, MO), Arlene Allen (Unionville, MO), and Emeline Allen (Kahoka, MO) and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, his parents, five uncles: Warren Allen (Lucerne, MO), Robert Allen (Ottumwa, IA), Lloyd Allen (Unionville, MO), Paul Allen (Kahoka, MO), Travis Smith (Newton, IA), and four aunts: Nellie Smith (Newton, IA), Leta Allen (Corydon, IA), Evelyn Allen (Ottumwa, IA), Neta Pierce (Cairo, MO). He was also preceded in death by three cousins, Paul Lavaine Allen, Elaine (Allen) Breckenridge, and Rick Pierce.
David attended Putnam County School District. He graduated in 1976. David worked various jobs after high school including Missouri Mining Coal Company, Premium Standard Farms, and working as a local farm hand.
David enjoyed being outside, going on walks and exploring nature. He enjoyed watching comedies and had a contagious laugh. “Big D” will be sadly missed by friends and family.
Graveside services were held at Friendship Cemetery north of Omaha, MO, on June 6th at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Friendship Cemetery. Casady-Luscan Funeral Services of Green Castle, MO is honored to care for minister to David’s family at this time.
