Deloris Pauline Van Egdom, age 91, of Albia, IA, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at her home, under the care of EveryStep Hospice.
Deloris was born on August 4, 1934, at home in Putnam County, MO, to Otho and Mona (Cowan) Casady. She grew up attending school in Livonia, MO. On March 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Clarence Van Egdom and to this union, 4 children were born, Ronald, Garry, Carol, and Keith. Deloris and Clarence were blessed with 62 years of marriage prior to Clarence’s passing on July 16, 2013.
Deloris was a homemaker, staying at home to raise her 4 children. She was very talented and enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. She also enjoyed reading and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Deloris was an excellent cook and baker. Above all else, Deloris’s greatest joy in life was the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.
Deloris is survived by a daughter, Carol Smead; 6 grandchildren, Jared (Stacy), Kelli, Jodee (Dom), John, Megan, and Riley; 3 great grandchildren, Enoch, Chase, and Tori; 3 daughters-in-law, Jean, Marcia, and Denise Van Egdom; a special niece, Connie (Donald) Noland; and former daughter-in-law, Dee (Michael) Van Egdom Benedict. Deloris is also survived by several nieces, nephews and good friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; 3 sons, Ronald, Garry, and Keith Van Egdom; a great grandson, Easton; her parents, Otho and Mona Casady; a sister, Alice (Dana) Davis; son-in-law, John Smead; and Nick Jones.
Per Deloris’s wishes, her body has been cremated. A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Deloris’s family present to greet family and friends.
Deloris’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at the Monroe County Hospital and EveryStep Hospice as well as all of the other caregivers that provided Deloris with excellent care over the years.
