Ernie Lee Stewart, son of Frank and Louise Stewart, was born August 14, 1936, in Spickard, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, February 20, 2026, in Saint Charles, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine.
Ivah Mae Shumate Steward, daughter of Joe and Maudie Elsie Vaughn Shumate was born February 3, 1939, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, August 27, 2021 in Maryland Heights, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two.
In February of 1962, he was united in marriage to Ivah Mae Shumate, and to this union one son and one daughter were born.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ivah; his son, Joe Frank; one brother, Jack Stewart; sister, Linda and her husband Cork Galloway; and sister, Kathy and her husband Bud Robison.
Ernie is survived by his daughter, Gina Jarvis, and her husband, Joshua, of St. Charles, Missouri; two grandchildren, Michael, and Penelope Jarvis; two sisters-in-law, Vicki Stewart, of Unionville, Missouri and Pat Shumate of Lebanon, Missouri; and one brother-in-law, John Shumate, of Lebanon, Missouri. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as a host of other relatives and friends who he loved very much.
Ernie was raised in Unionville, Missouri, and graduated from Unionville High School in 1954, but lived most of his adult life was in the Lebanon community. In 2015, he moved to O’Fallon, Missouri, with Ivah to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. He worked in construction in the early years but traveled the country as a long-haul truck driver for most of his career. He loved to travel the country and visited all 50 states during his lifetime. Upon retirement, he often traveled with his daughter and son-in-law. They shared many wonderful memories of all the places they went, including Alaska, Hawaii, Yellowstone, and Canada. They even took a cruise recently and saw Mexico, Belize, and Honduras.
Ernie never met a stranger and to know him was to be his friend for life. He was a very generous and kind person. Let us cherish the wonderful memories he created as we celebrate his life and his love for all of us.
Funeral services for Ernie Stewart were held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation was Saturday from 10 – 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Mount Rose Memorial Park, Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society and donations may be left at the funeral home.
