James G. Lawyer, 83, of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024 at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt, Iowa, following a brief illness.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, March 16 from 2-4 p.m., with a service following at 4 p.m., at Schultz Funeral Home in Grand Mound.
James was born May 19, 1940 in Indianola, Iowa to Earl and Violet (Douglas) Lawyer. He graduated from Mercer, Mo., High School and served one term in the
U.S. Navy. James worked for John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He married Pamela Gustafson on June 5, 1993, enjoying 30 years of marriage.
After retirement, Jim stayed very active working for the city of Grand Mound in maintenance, then moving to Lineville, Iowa, where he worked for Westview Nursing Home in Leon, Iowa, and later running a landscaping business.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, antiquing, and going to flea markets.
Surviving are his wife, Pamela; children Jerrie (Mike) Bringle, Mike (Jolene) Adams, Tammy Bennett, Bobbi Jo Harter, Jeannie Peterson, Mark Sloan, John Best and Stacy Schwenn; 27 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Lawyer and Linda Holder; a sister-in-law, Jackie Lawyer; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chris Adams; and siblings Margaret, Dorothy, twin brother Russell, and Danny.
