Neal Torrey, 87, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at Citizens Memorial Hospital Care Facility.
Neal was born in Unionville, on Nov. 13, 1935, to William Austin and Gela Leone Torrey. He graduated from Unionville High School. Then, attended Drake University and the University of Missouri.
He met Ruth Krischel in 1956. They were married June 14, 1957, and celebrated 66 years of marriage this year.
He was employed at WOOD TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, creating radio and television advertising. Then, he worked odd jobs in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for about 15 years.
Neal and Ruth attended the Bolivar Christian Church since its inception, about 2012. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, drawing, painting, cowboy poetry, and pets, including dogs, cats, and horses. Neal will be remembered for his sense of humor, artistic abilities, dedication to his wife, and unwavering faith in his Lord, Jesus Christ.
He is preceded in death by his father William Austin Torrey, and mother Gela Leone Pickering, his brother Bill Torrey, and brother Robert Torrey.
Neal is survived by his wife Ruth Torrey, his son Kevin Torrey, daughter-in-law Ami Torrey, and many extended family members. All held him in the highest regard and loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Services are under the care and direction of Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar.
